Fashion Project Teleportation to The Future by Marina Dannik

Teleportation Main Picture

In this fashion project for Rimowa, I was inspired by futurism. The works of architect Zaha Hadid have deeply influenced me. I based the imagery on the concept of futuristic architectural design blending with nature—metallic tones reflecting in blue skies, the depths of the ocean, and the golden hues of sand.

Inspiration: How My Photoshoot Ideas Come to Life

Almost every time an idea pops into my head, I immediately jot down notes and start gathering images and visuals—anything that inspires me for creating a mood board. These can range from snippets of text, melodies, nature, architecture, or art. In one word: art. It all comes together in my imagination, weaving a cohesive vision that drives my creative process.

Living in Dubai, a “metropolis in the desert” with its dense skyline and my super active lifestyle, I make it a point to set aside a few days to escape to quieter places. I absolutely love finding solitude where I can relax and tap into my creative inspiration.

Since it’s often hard to carve out time for long trips, I’m a big fan of nearby getaways in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Oman. These places offer stunning resorts where futuristic architecture meets untouched deserts—it’s incredibly inspiring, don’t you think? The ideas just flow effortlessly in these settings.

The Origin of the Teleportation Project Idea

The idea for the Teleportation Project was born from a deep curiosity and desire to push creative boundaries. It stemmed from exploring concepts of movement, space, and the blending of reality with imagination. This vision came together through a mix of inspiration from art, technology, and the limitless possibilities of storytelling.

One of my most inspiring creative weekends took me to Saudi Arabia, where I had the privilege of witnessing the breathtaking Maraya in the Ashar Valley of Al-‘Ula. Maraya is a stunning piece of art nestled in the desert canyon, designed to seamlessly blend into its surroundings. Rising from the sand like a mirage, the state-of-the-art structure is covered in 9,740 mirrored panels, reflecting the unparalleled beauty of AlUla.

I was deeply inspired by the harmony of seemingly contrasting elements: the mirrored metallic structure reflecting the vast, golden solitude of the desert. The unforgettable combination of cool gray tones of the building with the warm sandy hues of the desert and the deep blue shades of the sky and sea created an extraordinary visual experience.

At that moment, Tebra’s track Istok was playing in my headphones—a melody that now feels intertwined with the essence of this shoot.

Futuristic Architecture and Inspirations from Zaha Hadid’s Designs

The structure features clean, flowing lines, reflective materials, and a seamless integration with the natural environment—key elements often associated with futuristic design. The use of transparency and curved surfaces evokes a sense of innovation and harmony, reminiscent of architectural concepts by figures like Zaha Hadid.

Her works like the Capital Hill Residence (2018), Guangzhou Opera House (2010), Zaragoza Bridge Pavilion (2008), and Ordrupgaard Museum (2005) are undeniably awe-inspiring.

The Foundation of a Successful Photoshoot

The key to a successful photoshoot lies in a combination of experience, a trained eye, and continuous growth. Here are the pillars that form the base of every standout project:

Personal Growth
Constantly evolving as a professional by learning new skills and staying curious keeps creativity alive. Growth fuels originality and innovation.

Experience and Observation
A well-developed visual sense comes from years of observation. Watching, analyzing, and understanding how colors, textures, and compositions interact is essential.

Travel
Exploring different cultures, landscapes, and environments broadens creative horizons. Every trip adds layers of inspiration, whether it’s the architectural lines of a modern city or the raw beauty of nature.

Art Exhibitions
Regularly visiting art galleries and exhibitions nurtures creativity. Engaging with different forms of expression helps expand your understanding of design, aesthetics, and storytelling.

Project Structure: Keys to Successful Organization

I always structure and outline my projects meticulously. This approach helps me visualize the big picture and ensures no detail is overlooked. Understanding the structure of a project is crucial for its seamless execution. Here’s how I break it down:

1. Idea

Every project begins with a core concept—an idea that sets the tone for everything that follows. It serves as the foundation that defines the vision and narrative of the shoot.

2. Mood Board

The mood board is the heart of the creative process. It captures the essence of the idea through visuals, colors, textures, and references, guiding every aspect of the project and ensuring a cohesive aesthetic.

3. Style

This is where the overall aesthetic takes shape, from wardrobe choices and accessories to the visual tone and mood of the images.

4. Posing

Body language plays a critical role in storytelling. Posing is thoughtfully planned to convey the right emotions and enhance the narrative, ensuring alignment with the project’s vision.

5. Makeup

The makeup look is carefully chosen to complement the mood and style of the shoot. It’s not just about beauty—it’s about creating a look that enhances the concept.

6. Location

The location serves as the canvas for the project. Selecting the right setting ensures the environment becomes a seamless and powerful part of the story being told.

7. Team

A strong team is the backbone of any project. From photographers and stylists to makeup and hair artists, each member brings their expertise to life, transforming the vision into reality.

8. Timing

A well-structured timeline is essential. It keeps everyone on track and ensures that each stage of the shoot, from setup to the final shot, flows smoothly and efficiently.

By following this structured approach, every element of the project aligns, resulting in a cohesive and visually compelling outcome.

My Mood Board

Moodboardteleportation

The first step in bringing my ideas to life is always creating a mood board. Just jotting things down won’t work—it has to capture the vibe. My mood board usually consists of these key elements:

  • A color palette: This could include, for example, the texture of metal on a building—something that might later inspire the design of a Rimowa suitcase captured in a photo.
  • Specific accents: Unique features or details that stand out and set the tone. For example, a hand covered in paint—symbolizing the connection between a living person and something artificial, created by human hands, blurring the line between the real and the unreal.
  • Details I’ve photographed: Visuals I’ve captured from my surroundings that inspire the concept.
  • Individual components: Elements that align with and enhance the overall idea, such as a quote that perfectly captures the mood or concept.

Professional Team

Behind every successful project is a team of skilled professionals, each playing a crucial role in bringing the vision to life:

Photographer

Responsible for the technical and artistic execution of the concept. The photographer captures the essence of the idea through composition, lighting, and creative direction, ensuring the visuals align with the intended mood.

Model

The model brings the concept to life by embodying its essence. Through posing and expression, they convey the mood and narrative of the shoot, transforming abstract ideas into palpable emotions.

Stylist

The stylist curates a cohesive look that amplifies the idea of the shoot. From wardrobe selection to accessorizing, their work ties every visual element together, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Makeup Artist

Attention to detail is their forte. Makeup artists craft looks that highlight the model’s features while aligning with the shoot’s concept and mood. Their artistry adds depth and polish to the final visuals.

Art Director

The guardian of the vision, the art director ensures that the idea, mood, and stylistic choices remain consistent throughout the shoot. They oversee the creative process to ensure that every detail serves the larger narrative.

Each role is interconnected, forming a symbiotic collaboration that turns a concept into a masterpiece.

A successful shoot is the result of the perfect synergy between creativity, experience, and precise teamwork. Every individual plays a vital role, contributing their expertise and energy to the project.

Think of it as a finely tuned machine—each element, from the photographer’s vision to the stylist’s aesthetic, works in harmony. The combined effort ensures the final result is cohesive, impactful, and of the highest quality.

The Importance of Teamwork in a Photoshoot

The role of the team in a photoshoot is absolutely vital. Every participant brings their expertise and energy, allowing the creation of a cohesive and high-quality result. The process functions as a synchronized mechanism—when each person executes their role with precision, the collective effort transforms the project into a success.

Effective team collaboration involves:

  1. Cohesion of Results
When each team member performs their tasks at the highest level, the outcome is professional and harmonious, with every detail enhancing the overall vision.
  2. Time Efficiency
Proper delegation of roles and responsibilities avoids confusion, prevents delays, and ensures the workflow remains smooth and efficient.
  3. Execution of Complex Ideas
A skilled and well-coordinated team is capable of handling ambitious projects that require a multi-layered approach—from technical adjustments to artistic execution.

My Team

Working with a trusted team is crucial. For me, it’s important to understand each other effortlessly, to be on the same wavelength, and to maintain a friendly and respectful environment. Every member is an integral part of the machine driving the project forward. Their professionalism and collaboration ensure that the final product is of the highest quality.
